Transitioning from gas to a fully electric camper has delivered equivalent or enhanced functionality, while also enabling improved storage options and overall weight reduction. This change has specifically impacted the fridge, hot water system, and cooktop.

Traditional RV fridges operating on gas—commonly termed "3-way fridges" due to their ability to run on gas, 12V, and 240V power—offer versatility but come with notable disadvantages. They are highly inefficient when powered by 12V during travel, drawing approximately 16 amps compared to about 1.5 amps consumed by a dedicated 12V compressor fridge. This difference significantly affects the power available for charging the camper's batteries. Additionally, a 12V fridge provides greater capacity within a similar footprint; for instance, a 130-litre 12V fridge occupies the same space as a 95-litre three-way fridge, representing nearly a 37% increase in capacity. Unlike absorption fridges, 12V models do not require level positioning for optimal operation and perform more efficiently in warmer climates.
Regarding the hot water system, switching to a 12/240V unit allows installation in previously unused or underutilized spaces, thus creating additional accessible internal storage. Furthermore, whereas a gas on-demand system requires a water flow of 3.0–3.5 litres per minute before heating commences, the 12/240V alternative includes a 10-litre holding tank, enabling immediate access to hot water in smaller quantities and conserving onboard water reserves.
It was observed that gas cooktops were infrequently used for meal preparation due to the compact nature of slide-on campers, which results in cooking odours permeating the interior. Outdoor barbecuing or other external cooking methods are generally preferred. Consequently, the Explorer Edition is equipped with a 2600W inverter and a portable induction cooktop, offering flexibility for indoor or outdoor use. The cooktop can be conveniently stored, eliminating the need for hoses or pipes in storage areas. Other models provide ample side storage to accommodate a barbecue and maintain uncluttered benchtops with added storage benefits.
In conclusion, the removal of the gas bottle contributes to further weight savings, an advantage readily appreciated by users.
